Coverage

The Thin Film and Structured Surfaces Action Group will cover the measurement and characterisation of surfaces and layers or coatings that have sizes (lateral and depth) that are of 100nm or less. This includes both topographic features, and structural and functional films. All essential material classes, laser systems and measurement techniques will be covered.

Issues to be addressed

Film thickness and material structure, density, porosity, film chemistry, optical properties, mechanical properties, electrical and magnetic properties
Areal surface texture measurement and characterisation
Calibration of instruments, traceability of measurements, transfer artefacts
Standardisation
Cross-correlation between measurement results obtained using different techniques
Advances in novel measurement techniques
